Guide: Remote Recharge and Upgrade – AP Gain with Math and Tactics

37

New update for game logic is already hit servers. It’s not new Ingress update all is done on server side.

Now when ever you use remote recharge you gain 10 AP. This is not much but it will give you at least some reward for hard work in keeping the portals, links and fields.

UPDATE: We got info that this also works on plain recharge, and we got also one more tip: if you recharge individual resonator you also get 10 AP. This way you can gain more AP on single portal.

Next more important news is that you will gain 65 AP for every resonator update that someone else deployed, this is team game after all. It doesn’t matter what level you are or what level difference between resonators that you are upgrading is.

So if you wanted to deploy and upgrade to L5 resonators, before you would only get 125 AP for deploying it, but now you get 125 (deploy L1) + 65 (upgrade to L2) + 65 (L3) + 65 (L4) + 65 (L5) = 385 AP

Here is a math for deploying and upgrading resonator to certain level:

  • So deploying L1 = 125 AP
  • Upgrading to L2 = 125 + 65 = 190 AP
  • Upgrading to L3 = 125 + 65  + 65 = 255 AP
  • Upgrading to L4 = 125 + 65  + 65  + 65 = 320 AP
  • Upgrading to L5 = 125 + 65  + 65  + 65  + 65 = 385 AP
  • Upgrading to L6 = 125 + 65  + 65  + 65  + 65  + 65 = 450 AP
  • Upgrading to L7 = 125 + 65  + 65  + 65  + 65  + 65  + 65 = 515 AP
  • Upgrading to L8 = 125 + 65   + 65  + 65  + 65  + 65  + 65  + 65 = 580 AP

If you have a neutral portal and a team mate and you want to use upgrade to the max of your current level here is math for it:

  • Player Level 1 = 750 + 125 * 6  = 1500 AP (8 L1) (Player1)
  • Player Level 2 = 1500 + 65 * 4 = 1760 AP (4 L1 + 4 L2) (Player2)
  • Player Level 3 = 1760 + 65 * 8 = 2280 AP (How? Easy first upgrade all L2 to L3 and than upgrade L1 to L2 that’s 8 upgrades – Decoded) (4 L2 + 4 L3) (Player1)
  • Player Level 4 = 2280 + 65 * 8 = 2800 AP (4 L3 + 4 L4) (Player2)
  • Player Level 5 = 2800 + 65 * 4 = 3060 AP (2 L5 + 4 L4 + 2 L3) (Player1)
  • Player Level 6 = 3060 + 65 * 6 = 3450 AP (2 L6 + 2 L5 + 4 L4) (Player2)
  • Player Level 7 = 3450 + 65 * 3 = 3645 AP (1 L7 + 2 L6 + 2 L5 + 3 L4) (Player1)
  • Player Level 8 = 3645 + 65 * 4 = 3905 AP (1 L8 + 1 L7 + 2 L6 + 2 L5 +2 L4 ) (Player2)

So if you are Player 1 you get 1500 + 65 * 4 + 65 * 4 + 65 * 3 = 2215 AP

Player 2 will get = 3905 – 2215 = 1690 AP

Player 1 can add 4 more resonators in the end L8 L7 L6 L5 that is + 260 AP

This will greatly increase team play and coordination. This is huge advantage and help for the players who are starting, and its giving more AP for higher level players, that finally have a reason to keep low level gear.

We will add some screen shots of upgrading posts.

Enjoy your new AP gaining possibilities and strategies.

  1. this is wrong!!!
    Player Level 2 = 1750 + 65 * 8 = 2270 AP (8 L2)
one player can deploy max 4 l2 resonator
    so the right is:
    Player Level 2 = 1750 + 65 * 4 = 2010 AP (4 L2)
    correct the others

  2. This is great news. I’ll finally get some AP for the job I’ve been doing, recharging the portals in my area. :D

I disagree with your assessment on AP for upgrading your own resonators. Unless it was just changed in the last hour as I was out in the field an hour ago and tried to upgrade my own resonators from L1 to L2 to L3 and so on. I only got the original 125AP for deploying nothing for upgrading my own resonator. Now I did get AP for upgrading someone elses, which is great, but nothing for trying to upgrade my own after that. Could you please confirm if I am wrong???

    • Bojan Cincur on

No you are right, you only get for upgrading other agents resonators… I added player 1 and player 2 to visualize it a bit…

  4. I was excited when I heard about this, but it still doesn’t make sense for people out in the boon docks (where there’s no opposition). If I keep my portals recharged, that’s 100 AP for 10 days; or I can let them drain and rebuild them for 1750+ AP every 10 days.

    • our portals are L4-5 and it takes me (L6) at least 2 charges per day for each portal.
or 8*10*10 for each individually (800AP)
no enemies ? Let them die, make sure u link them up before they die, extra AP for rebuilding!

  5. “Player Level 2 = 1750 + 65 * 8 = 2270 AP (8 L2)” – you can’t deploy eight L2 resonators; the limit there is four.

      • Wait, now if you’re alternating players, you should really start with 4 L1 from one player and 4 L1 from the other…or maybe something depending on what the final configuration is going to be…right?

      • Wait, now if you’re alternating players, you should really start with 4 L1 from one player and 4 L1 from the other (or maybe pick which players depending on what the final configuration is going to be)…right?

  6. I do not think you collect the 500 AP (for placing 1st resonator) and 250 AP (for placing last resonator) in addition to the 125 for those individual resonators (that is, first & last).

    L1 AP should be calculated: 500 (first) + 125*6 (two through seven) + 250 (eighth). 1500.

The rest of the sections should be corrected as well, since you’re basing them off the L1 total, which is 250 AP too high.

I could be wrong about this whole thing. Correct me if I am, please.

    • You do collect 125 for all 8 resonators. In addition, 500 for the first, and 250 for the last. On the screen it shows up as 625 for the first and 325 for the last, but it’s the same. 1750 for building from nothing to 8 rezs.

Unless it’s different specifically for L1, but I don’t think it is.

  7. I hear you only get AP for upgrading a resonator from another agent, and not for upgrading your own. So this wouldn’t work this way if that is true.

  8. Maybe my math is wrong, but:

You find a neutral portal and claim it.
    Total AP: P1 = 1500

Now you need a friend to help. They put down 4x L2.
    Total AP: P1 = 1500, P2 = 260

You upgrade those L2s to L3, and they put down another 4x L2.
    Total AP: P1 = 1760, P2 = 520

They upgrade your L3s to L4, and you can put down another 4x L3.
    Total AP: P1 = 2020, P2 = 780

Now you need another friend to put down some L4s on your L3s.
    Total AP: P1 = 2020, P2 = 780, P3 = 260

    You and P2 upgrade P3’s L4s to L5, P3 upgrades 2x P2’s L4s, and P4 comes in to upgrade the last 2x L4s.
    Total AP: P1 = 2150, P2 = 910, P3 = 390, P4 = 130

    Everyone upgrades somebody else’s L5s to L6s.
    Total AP: P1 = 2280, P2 = 1040, P3 = 520, P4 = 260

Everyone upgrades somebody else’s L6 to L7, and you need 4 other homies to upgrade the rest.
    Total AP: P1 = 2345, P2 = 1105, P3 = 585, P4 = 305, P5-8 = 65

Repeat the previous step from L7 to L8.
    Total AP: P1 = 2410, P2 = 1170, P3 = 650, P4 = 370, P5-8 = 130

Seems like i’ve got a better strategy for two players, if i haven’t mistaken anywhere.

    Player Level x = *expression* = n AP (*Player 1 resonators* | *Player 2 resonators*) [Player k]

    Player Level 1 = 500 + 125 * 4 = 1000 AP (4 L1 | – ) [Player 1]
    Player Level 2 = 1000 + 125 * 4 + 250 + 65 * 4 = 2010 AP ( – | 4 L1 + 4 L2) [Player 2]
    Player Level 3 = 2010 + 65 * 8 = 2530 AP (4 L2 + 4 L3 | – ) [Player 1]
    Player Level 4 = 2530 + 65 * 8 = 3050 AP ( – | 4 L3 + 4 L4) [Player 2]
    Player Level 5 = 3050 + 65 * 6 = 3440 AP (4 L4 + 2 L5 | 2 L4) [Player 1]
    Player Level 6 = 3440 + 65 * 4 = 3700 AP (2 L4 | 2 L4 + 2 L5 + 2 L6) [Player 2]
    Player Level 7 = 3700 + 65 * 5 = 4025 AP (2 L4 + 2 L5 + 2 L6 + L7 | L6) [Player 1]
    Player Level 8 = 4025 + 65 * 5 = 4350 AP (L5 + L6 | 2 L5 + 2 L6 + L7 + L8) [Player 2]
    Player Level 8 = 4350 + 65 * 3 = 4545 AP (L5 + 2 L6 + L7 + L8 | L5 + L6 + L8) [Player 1]
    Player Level 8 = 4545 + 65 * 2= 4675 AP (L6 + L7 + L8 | L5 + 2 L6 + L7 + L8) [Player 2]
    Player Level 8 = 4675 + 65 = 4740 AP (2 L6 + L7 + L8 | 2 L6 + L7 + L8) [Player 1]

    [Player 1] AP total gain: 1000 + 520 + 390 + 325 + 195 + 65 = 2495.
    [Player 2] AP total gain: 1010 + 520 + 260 + 325 + 130 = 2245.

This strategy is actually a “greedy” algorithm which is following the rule “if this resonator is not mine, try to upgrade it to next level”.

Also, note that you earn those additional 250 AP for deploying the last 8th resonator. So, that’s a mistake in original strategy up there.
And also, on step 3 of original strategy (Player 1) upgrades his own L1 resonators – so he shouldn’t get AP for that.

    • Bojan Cincur on

I was only able to confirm remote recharge, but we also got reports that normal recharge will give AP also!

      • Yes, confirm this, field recharge also give you AP.

Interesting though, whether recharge of individual resonator consumes x/8 XM or still the same amount? Need to check this next time..

  10. Is it possible to blow up your own portals? Is this a way to level up by yourselves?
Of course you would have to wait long enough for your portal to give enough bursters first::: it is not a fast way to level up; if possible at all:::

    • Steve – After you’re in range of a targeted portal, click on the “UPGRADE portal” button. This will give you a detailed view of the portal and allow you to scroll around a carousel of resonators. You’ll be able to select specific resonators and recharge them one at a time at the bottom of the screen.

  11. At an unclaimed portal, you get 500 bonus for the first res, and 250 bonus for the last res, but you still get the full 125 for all 8 resonators. So for L1, it’s actually 750 + 8*125.

I’ve verified this many times via the log messages. Driving to distant unclaimed portals was key to my early leveling in February. Maybe the points are different now then they were in Jan?
